Blood Drive 8 2017Blood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person - the gift of life. A decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several if your blood is separated into its components - red cells, platelets and plasma - which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.

There is a constant need for regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use. Regular blood donations by a sufficient number of healthy people is needed to ensure that safe blood will be available whenever and wherever it is needed.

Donating blood has many health benefits for the donor as well. Each time you donate you'll receive a free wellness checkup which includes blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count and cholesterol screening. These wellness checkups have saved the lives of some of those who volunteer to give blood.

You may be less likely to have a heart attack.
Donating regularly may help your blood flow and result in fewer arterial blockages.  In fact, some studies have shown that men who donate at least three times a year can drastically reduce their risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Donating can keep your iron level balanced.
Having too much iron in your blood can contribute to hardening of the arteries. When you donate blood, the amount of iron in your blood is reduced. The iron will be replenished by the food you eat after donating, but regular donations can balance your iron level.

It feels great to donate! It's something you can spare - most people have blood to spare... yet, there is still not enough to go around. You will help ensure blood is on the shelf when needed - most people don't think they'll ever need blood, but many do. And you will be someone's hero.

Blood drives are held quarterly. Our compassionate parishioners help make these drives a great success.  Please help us in saving lives by giving the “gift of life.” For more information, please contact Karen Taylor 954-755-7595.
