Though different names, they all carry the same meaning by offering a "new possibility to convert and recover the grace of justification". CCC 1446

The sacrament holds two equally essential elements:

• The acts of the man who undergoes conversion that is: contrition, confession, and satisfaction.
• God's action through the intervention of the Church as she, though the ordained minister forgives sins in the name of Jesus Christ. Thus the sinner is healed and re-established in ecclesial communion.
