As followers of Christ, we are called to put our faith into action by serving others. We are called to sacrifice our time, talent and treasure to bring Christ to others. We are the voice of God for those who have lost hope and need to remember that God loves them. We are called to protect the vulnerable, those who may seem like the least in the kingdom of God and yet Christ regards them with tender love and compassion.

It is important to teach this to our Confirmation candidates and that is why as part of our two-year Confirmation program we require that each student do a minimum of 10 hours in Confirmation 1 and a minimum of 10 hours in Confirmation 2. These hours are to be directly related to the Works of Mercy and Church service.

Pre-approval by the Religious Education office is required for service performed at locations other than St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. Household chores and responsibilities, caring for siblings or any family members DOES NOT QUALIFY. The student may not be paid for any project.

For Confirmation 1 a minimum of 10 hours must be completed PRIOR to registering for Confirmation 2 classes. And a minimum of 10 hours for Confirmation 2 must be completed PRIOR to Confirmation.

GUIDELINES

We do service hours for confirmation because it is not enough that you know about your faith. How do you put your faith into practice? How often do you go out of your way to help others?

1. Choose SERVICE projects that reflect on any of the Corporal/Spiritual Works of Mercy or Church service.
2. Email setonr[email protected] for pre-approval of service NOT performed at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
3. No pre-approval is necessary for projects performed at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church.
4. Household chores and responsibilities, caring for siblings or family members DOES NOT QUALIFY as service.
5. Students may not be paid for any service project.
6. Service logs will be reviewed prior to the Christmas break to evaluate student progress.
7. Service hours must be completed prior to registering for Confirmation 2 classes and/or eligibility for Confirmation.
8. Ten (10) service hours are required for each year of preparation: 10 hours for Confirmation 1 plus 10 hours for Confirmation 2.

Corporal Works of Mercy – Kind acts by which we help our neighbors with their material and physical needs.

• Feed the hungry
• Give drink to the thirsty
• Clothe the naked
• Shelter the homeless
• Visit the sick and imprisoned
• Bury the dead
• Give alms to the poor 

Spiritual Works of Mercy – Acts of compassion that aim at people’s emotional and spiritual needs.

• Instruct the ignorant
• Console the doubtful
• Admonish the sinner (redirect their actions)
• Comfort the afflicted
• Bear wrongs patiently
• Forgive offenses willingly
• Pray for the living and the dead

Church Service – Helping to build our parish community through fellowship and service to others.
